Thank You for Five Graet Years
May 15, 2009
Dear Friends of the Ride for Rick:
After careful consideration and much consternation, I have decided that we will not hold our Ride for Rick bike ride and road race this year.
A number of factors have contributed to this decision, but it is the general feeling among the RFR team that it will be difficult, if not impossible, to expect to generate the kind of money we have generated in the past, given the current economic conditions. Furthermore, we felt it would be insensitive of us to ask, given the overly generous nature of all the RFR supporters. Considering the enormous work that goes into an undertaking such as the RFR, we felt it was best to hold off for this year and reevaluate our future next year.
In the five years since the ride’s inception, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthy charities, and perhaps even more importantly, have managed to unite a community around a common goal- helping one’s friends and neighbors.
We certainly hope that this goal will remain as a guiding principle for all of us as we make life decisions going forward. Thanks to the generosity of all of you over the past five years, we have created two scholarship funds that will exist in perpetuity as a legacy to Rick and the event, and have set aside monies that will be used to fund additional scholarship awards over the ensuing years. We hope to augment this scholarship fund with any contributions we receive this year, and would certainly accept and appreciate any contribution you might still be willing to make this year.
The Ride for Rick is the work of countless hands, and we want to be mindful of each pair of hands as we make our decision about our future. You have all been so incredibly generous with your time, talents and resources, and we can’t thank you enough.
As we move into 2010, I will again meet with my team to determine what the future holds for us.
I thank you for your time and consideration.
With Warm Wishes on behalf of the entire Ride for Rick team,
Lisa Moisan
